Rubitas is a prostrate herbaceous perennial legume that produces a large bulk of high protein, high energy forage with a high level of digestibility and nutritive value.
Strengths:

  • Tolerates close grazing by sheep
  • Dense, prostrate growth habit
  • Very high cold tolerance, frost to -9oC with little or no frost damage
  • Will tolerate short periods of waterlogging
Pasture type and use:

Growing to 40cm tall and a spread of 100cm, Rubitas has a strong, deep, branched taproot.

Stems are sparsely hairy, leafy with many long thin branches originating from a dense crown.

It has a high level of drought and cold tolerance and once established can tolerate long periods of close grazing by sheep.

Rainfall:

Best adapted for sowing in temperate areas receiving 500-1000mm average annual rainfall.

Not suited to areas with very high Summer temperatures.

Sowing:

Best sown at a depth of 5mm and can be drilled, direct drilled or broadcast.

Rubitas should be sown late Summer to Autumn for sufficient seedling development coming into Winter, but can also be sown in Spring.

Sowing rates:

5-8kg/Ha alone.

3-6kg/Ha in a mix.
