Victoca
Perennial Ryegrass // Lolium perenne
fact sheet
Victoca Perennial Ryegrass was selected in Tasmania by the Department of Primary Industries and Water in response to problems of pasture persistence, frequently due to Cockchafer attacks.

It was selected at both Avoca and Campbell Town in the dry midlands area of Tasmania during the 1982/83 drought from a line of Victorian perennial ryegrass. During this time there were repeated outbreaks of red-headed Cockchafer.

  • Notable features include:
  • Deep rooted
  • Tolerant to waterlogging
  • Tolerant to close grazing
  • Quick recovery after summer

As Victoca is very persistent and handles stress well, including the stress of trampling, it is well suited to amenity use including sports oval, backyards and any high wear areas.
