- Low endophyte, reducing the risk of animal health issues
- Good drought tolerance
- Good Winter production
Wintas II has strong seedling vigour with excellent Winter activity for a perennial ryegrass, providing high quality Winter feed when you need it most.
Wintas II is a low endophyte variety minimising stock health issues such as ryegrass staggers and heat stress.
Suited to areas with an annual rainfall of 600-650mm+
Wintas II should be drilled at approximately 10-20mm into a well prepared, weed free seed bed.
Use of light harrows or weld mesh behind the drill is best.
Rolling after sowing can help, especially where moisture retention is important.
Direct drilling is also an option in some circumstances.
15-20kg/Ha alone.
1-15kg/Ha in a mix.
Wintas, perennial ryegrass, was bred in Tasmania from populations originally sourced from high altitude areas of south-west Europe. It is, by perennial ryegrass standards, surprisingly drought tolerant, and in cool Mediterranean climates starts growth earlier in late winter than other cultivars.
At the Elliot Research Station in North-west Tasmania it has consistently out-yielded other cultivars at that time of year in comparative trials. It will grow wherever perennial ryegrass is currently utilised.
